Website developer – LAMP environment

We have just launched a version 1.0 web site – targeted at a particular outdoor hobby enthusiast group – motorcycle riders who get out there and ride.

The site is intended to be highly interactive – enabling users to post their stories about their motorcycle road trips and adventures – including photos and videos, and for other site visitors to post comments/replies, and get involved in “the adventure.”

We need a seasoned programmer who can help us take the site to the next level. This will involve:
• adding new features to the existing site
• enhancing the performance and design of the site itself
• since this is version 1.0, part of the job will be to fight bugs that will rear their ugly little heads in the coming weeks

This is a part-time contract, probably for about a year.

Contractor will work from their own location, but we strongly prefer someone who is located in San Diego or Orange County, which is where we are.

The site was built using an open-source CMS (Drupal 5.1) and is currently hosted with a shared hosting service.

Compensation: Acceptable hourly rate, or combination of monthly retainer and hourly.

Responsibilities:
• Maintain site, respond to and fix Version 1.0 issues thoroughly and promptly
• Build new features, per our spec calendar covering the rest of 2007
• Enhance the usability, look and feel, and performance of the current site
• Migrate the site to a new hosting environment (soon)

Skills and experience:
• Has installed and integrated several sites using Drupal
• Highly proficient with:
o mySQL databases
o coding in php
• Solid experience/skills with the following is very important:
o Javascript
o Flash
• Organized and articulate, codes quickly/efficiently, on a tight schedule and with high quality results

The ideal candidate:
• Has a portfolio of relevant previous work and is proud of it
• Has a solid programming background, plus is able to turn our vision of a very cool, highly interactive, and very user-friendly web site into a reality
