ThirdAge, the ten year old premier destination for Baby Boomers and Aging Mid-Lifers is seeking a technically talented and smart individual looking to join a small team of seasoned web media professionals and lead the internal development efforts in tandem with our third party Drupal development partner, Chapter Three, LLC (http://www.chapterthreellc.com/.) Based in our New York City offices, this individual will be a self-starter and self-manager with demonstrated experience developing and deploying large-scale web development projects. He/she will posses the right combination of engineering and project management skills.

As the Senior Developer you will be responsible for and have ownership in all strategic development, deployment, and ongoing operational activities associated with our new Drupal-powered technology infrastructure - due to launch in early 2008. You will be a key stakeholder and work closely with our Director of Program Management and the Chapter Three team to translate product specifications into consumer-friendly functionality on our premier site (www.thirdage.com) and associated sister sites, including interfacing with multiple third party systems. You will also work with key internal marketing, editorial, production, and design team members to align the technology development efforts against customer and overall business needs.

Specific full-time responsibilities include:

- Ownership and coordination of all web development efforts for the company, including working with key stakeholders across multiple internal and external groups
- Direct day to day liaison with Chapter Three, our Drupal development partner on all development activities
- Responsible for developing and supporting all Web-based application elements used company wide.
- Working with a cross-functional team to translate requirements into fully developed and tested product feature sets, on time and on budget.
- Responsible for all quality assurance activities, including unit, acceptance, and performance testing process and execution
- Key technical point of contact for all third party relationships (Email Service Provider, Content aggregators, Video technologies, etc.)
- Monitoring of ongoing development progress and making adjustments when required or requested by senior management
- Proactively anticipating, identifying and resolving all development issues. Escalating issues to peers and management appropriately
- Appropriately managing stakeholder expectations related to project scope and scheduling
- Working with the Director of Program Management, clear project management process and techniques are utilized providing management with transparency to all development activities

Required qualifications:

- BS / BA Degree (Masters a plus)
- At least three (3) years of direct responsibility for large-scale web-based development projects (3+ engineers)
- At least three (3) years working experience in PHP development
- A solid understanding of web-based content management systems (Open Source PHP CMS systems - specific Drupal experience a BIG plus!)
- Working experience with the LAMP stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP), HTML, XML, Web 2.0 technologies (CSS, Javascript, AJAX, etc.)
- Working experience with SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
- Working experience with Web Analytics (specific Google Analytics experience a Plus)
- Previous experience managing other web developers
- Thorough understanding of development process with demonstrated experience translating requirements into functional consumer-friendly applications. Individual must understand the fundamentals of software development, including best practices, but also respect and excel in situations where the business is constantly pushing the technical envelope on innovation.
- Demonstrated experience working with front-end design experts seamlessly translating user interface design into back-end functionality
- Detailed-oriented self starter and self manager
- Keen interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience working with a small group in a high-paced entrepreneurial environment
- Ability to manage multiple development projects simultaneously in a fully competent and autonomous manner.
- Strong general technology aptitude with a keen interest in the latest technology industry trends
- General understanding of unique attributes of the baby-boomer generation is a plus
