Manager, Web Services – Public Library Association

The Public Library Association (PLA) division of the American Library Association (ALA) is looking for a full-time Web Services Manager to manage and develop PLA web presence to serve the organization and its mission. Responsible for overall design, development and content management of www.pla.org. Creates web presence ensuring content is timely, up to date and user oriented. Manages virtual member communities, member social networking and 2.0 initiatives. Provides technology support for development of PLA e-learning programs (including technology and instructional design for webcasts, e-seminars and virtual seminars) and other web-based products and programs. Supports e-marketing of PLA initiatives. Supports web capabilities including registration, e-commerce, creation of online forms and member data integration. Works collaboratively with PLA staff, internal ALA departments and appropriate member committees.

Requirements: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience. Minimum of 3 – 5 years related experience; Web development background in an educational/training, member based association or e-commerce environment. Strong skills in web design, knowledge of usability and the ability to create and manipulate web pages efficiently. Skills in writing/editing for the web and managing web content from multiple sources. Experience in working with subject matter experts in development and management of online training. Knowledge of various learning management, e-training, community and content management tools including, Drupal, Moodle, Collage (or other content management systems), Dreamweaver, MS Office. (The ideal candidate will have some programming skills, familiarity with ColdFusion, HTML, MS SQL and the ability to troubleshoot). In addition, must demonstrate initiative, strong project management experience, entrepreneurial drive, commitment to continuous learning, strong member/customer service orientation, exceptional communication, organizational and interpersonal skills; the ability to handle multiple projects successfully and function in a collaborative team-based environment. Some travel to ALA and PLA conferences.

Full-time, 35 hours/wk; starting salary from low 50s –negotiable based on experience.
